Kite boarding is a wonderful activity that allows individuals to harness the power of the wind and glide across the water, and even into the air on a board! When it comes to sports like these, few destinations rival the Turks and Caicos Islands. The dreamy collection of islands that’s east of Cuba and north of Hispaniola offer miles of shallow and warm turquoise water. The sand on the beaches are also so fine they feel like fairy dust. At Tint Turks and Caicos, we are experienced in making our valued clients’ parasailing dreams come true.
Top Kite Boarding Spots in the Turks and Caicos Islands
Here are some of the top kite boarding spots that one can check out during his or her trip in Turks and Caicos:
Turtle Tail is located on the south coast of Providenciales. It is a luxurious residential area that’s home to some of the island’s most beautiful ocean views. Once you get here, enjoy the buttery-calm waters that are perfect for any skill level.
Although Chalk Sound seems like a rather reserved location, it offers incredibly turquoise water. In addition, the natural lagoon is home to hundreds of small rocky islands and the Chalk Sound National Park is a sight to behold.
Located on the northwest point of Providenciales, Northwest Point is an untrodden beach that’s completely secluded. This gives kite boarders all the open water they could ever dream of.
One can reach the North Caicos and Middle Caicos Islands via Surfari sail boats. The neighboring cays of Providenciales are perfect for kite boarding.
Located in the northeast corner of Providenciales, Grace Bay Beach is only five minutes away from Long Bay. This kite boarding spot is more suited for experienced riders because of the deeper waters, which are about 12 feet deep. Kite boarders must be prepared to ride upwind, chop hop, and relaunch in overhead deep water. As the beach runs seven miles long, there are plenty of clear spots to launch from.
Long Bay Beach is considered to be the best spot for kite boarding in the Turks and Caicos. It is home to miles of shallow, waist-deep waters; they are only as deep as 4.5 feet during high tide. Hence, these waters are forgiving to beginner kite boarders.
How To Come Prepared
Interested kite boarders are recommended to bring and/or wear the following items:
Visitors are also welcomed to bring their own equipment, such as a board with bindings, a leash, a power bar with lines, pump, and a harness. Next, you may want a quiver of two to three kites that range from nine to 14 meters. The correct kite size depends on the wind’s speed and the rider’s weight. If you are new to the sport, it is recommended that one commits to several days of lessons to get the hang of it.
When Should You Go Kite Boarding?
It is great to kite board when the trade winds blow, generally from November through June. Ideally, one should come after the hurricane season. Alternatively, one can also kite board during the low season, which is from mid-December through mid-April.
